100 Black and White Phone Images Challenge

it's been a while since I last posted and I can only apologise for that. But I wanted to let you all know that I'm still here.

There are many reasons a photographer might set themselves a challenge. For some it may be a personal project. Others to find themselves. Perhaps to push themselves and get out and shoot.

Whichever it is, it's something I would definitely encourage.

As a portrait photographer, people are pretty much "my thing" but that doesn't stop me from shooting other stuff. The fantastic thing about being a photographer is the ability to show others how you see the world. Sure, taking a great photo is one thing, even better when you have all the equipment. But what if you stripped that away.

This is where my 100 Black and White Phone Challenge comes into play. Most people carry a phone on them everyday and all the latest phones are now equipped with cameras. The highest use of this is no doubt for selfies and nights out. But phone tech has come on so much in the past few years that it seems a shame to waste that.

I have my phone on me pretty much all the time, there is no excuse for me to not take advantage of it.

This isn't a means for me to document and showcase everything I do. I wanted to push myself, I wanted to open my eyes to the world around me. I want to look for texture, contrast, patterns, see the world differently and show you how I see it.

I decided on Black and White because I wanted to strip away the colour. By doing so I believe you can display things differently. The eye is no longer over working with an array of colours that themselves can trigger chemical reactions in the brain. You're simply seeing the world for what it is...

I'm a huge fan of Black and White images for this very reason. There are no distractions.

The challenge started on my Instagram account, but I surprised myself with what I was photographing. That being said, I wanted to bring it to you...

So here we are, the first 11 images..

You can follow this challenge directly on Instagram. Alternatively, I will be updating the results on my blog also.

Many Thanks,
